Cà Rezzonico

......for the Bon family, on a project of the most important Venetian baroque style architect Baldassarre Longhena (1598–1682). His death on 1682 and the financial troubles of the family caused the suspensions of the works, leaving the palace unfinished.
So Gianbattista Rezzonico, an important merchant and banker, committed the completion to Giorgio Massari, who finished the project on 1756.
The palace, respecting its original purpose of merchant’s house- Fondaco, has two different entrances: one on the water for the goods, through which drapers or other goods were unloaded and brought to the first floor, ready to be showed to customers.
Its façade, facing the Gran Canal, is divided in 3 different orders and can be easily compared with Cà Pesaro, one of the other Longhena’s work. Very rich and gorgeous are the internal room, like the Lady’s Room decorated with bright and lively colours (green, pink) and supplied with mirrors, the Pastel’s Room tending to the Italian baroque style and the Dance Hall, extremely illuminated by the big windows and Venetian chandelier with the amazing painted roof.
