Picasso. On the beach.

Until January 7th 2018, at the Project Rooms of the Peggy Guggenheim Collection in Venice, you can visit the exhibition Picasso. On the beach. It is an exhibition-dossier that selects 14 works by Picasso related to the theme of the beach and bathers, curiously the only real external scenario to which the artist refers throughout his work. All the paintings, including On the beach, belonging to the collection of Peggy Guggenheim, Woman seated on the beach, masterpiece from the collections of the Musée des Beaux Arts de Lyon, and Great bather with book, preserved in the spaces of the Musée national Picasso-Paris, were made in a single week in February of ' 37 and exhibited today together for the first time, after 80 years, on the occasion of this exhibition.

The nude in movement, like most of the themes addressed by the Spanish artist, is perceived both in a traditional way and in a more modern way: deeply inspired by Giorgione and Titian but also by the contemporary Manet, Cezanne, Matisse and Renoir, Picasso reprocesses The feminine forms through the sections of  of bodies that require an active mental work of the spectator to be recomposed. The artist's sculptural intent is also well delineated: The paintings are a clear expression of cubist geometricism. And it is precisely from the contrast between the rarefied geometrical shapes delineated on the canvas and the almost intimate atmosphere that pervades the anthropomorphic character of the figures, despite their extreme stylization.

The exhibition is part of the program linked to the triennial project "Picasso-Méditerranée", promoted by the Musée national Picasso-Paris. Every day at 3pm the museum offers free guided tours to the exhibition, upon purchase of the entrance ticket.
